How it came about
About eighteen months ago Green 4 applied to Homes England, now known as the National Housing Bank, for funding to build the Wilmot Arms development site. It was not straightforward. The group has architects, engineers and project managers with a vast range of development experience, but none of it gained through Green 4, and it was asking to borrow public money while using a new, innovative building system.
After many months the group was told that the Homes England technical team would visit to assess the building system. It was a big moment that could have gone either way.
The outcome
The technical team placed the system in MMC Category 2, and Homes England has partnered with the group on the Wilmot Arms, funding the scheme with the duoKore® system. Work starts on site in October.
What it means
The nine homes at Wilmot Arms in Borrowash are the first scheme to be funded with the system. They are part of a wider development programme that includes 40 homes at the Old Leisure Centre in Hinckley and 55 homes at Mapperley in Nottingham.
